The Smoking Lodge is part of a larger estate on Lake Michigan just north of Chicago. The main residence was built in the 1920s in the Cotswold cottage style, and in the design of the lodge, we were able to give our clients something they didn’t have in the main house: soaring ceilings and expansive windows for views across Lake Michigan. The lodge has many functions - an entertainment space for cocktails and cigars that, in the time of COVID, now also serves as a home office, screened porch, and meeting area. The lake-facing terrace stands 40 feet above a ravine, creating the feeling of being in a tree house. The full wrap-around terrace was intentional so all the doors could open, turning the lodge into a screened porch perfect for smoking. The lodge is equipped with a state-of-the-art air filtration system.
